Back to the Bible

1. What we mean by restoration

We are trying to be the church you read about in the New Testament. Nothing more and nothing less. We wear the name Christ gave His church. We worship the way the first Christians worshiped. We teach what the apostles taught about how to be saved. Restoration means going back to the Bible and doing what it says.

2. The church began in Jerusalem

Jesus said, "I will build my church" (Matthew 16:18). On the day of Pentecost, about AD 33, Peter preached the gospel, about three thousand people were baptized, and the Lord added them to His church (Acts 2:41, 47). That is when and where the church began. No man founded it, and no man owns it.

3. The seed principle

Jesus said, "The seed is the word of God" (Luke 8:11). Seed produces after its kind. Plant the same gospel in any country and any century, and it produces the same church. People who hear the word, believe it, and obey it are added by the Lord to the same church the apostles were in.

4. What happened in the 1800s

In the early 1800s, men in America from different denominations grew tired of division. Barton W. Stone, Thomas Campbell, Alexander Campbell, and others laid down their creeds and pleaded with people to go back to the Bible alone. Their motto was, "Where the Scriptures speak, we speak; where the Scriptures are silent, we are silent." They did not start a church. They called people back to the one Christ already built.

5. We stand on Scripture

We do not ask you to trust a movement, a preacher, or a history book. We ask you to open your Bible. The people of Berea "searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so" (Acts 17:11). Do the same with us. If we teach or practice anything the New Testament does not, show us from Scripture, and we will change.

6. Undenominational, not denominational

A denomination is one part of the religious world, named and organized by men. Each one began somewhere after Pentecost, under some man, around some creed.

The Lord's church is not one more part. It is the church Christ built before any denominations existed. Christ is its only Head (Ephesians 1:22, 23). The New Testament is its only creed (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). It wears His name (Romans 16:16). The Lord adds its members when they obey the gospel (Acts 2:47).

Being undenominational is more than having no label. Many churches call themselves nondenominational and still follow men's teaching on salvation and worship. The question is whether a church matches the New Testament.

Plant the word of God alone and you get a Christian, nothing more. Men have to add something to the seed to get a denomination.
